And Now a New Start

Back to The Little Stitcher's Full Moon series I go.
This time I'm working on "Snow Moon".

Woodpeckers are my reliable winter birds.

Here's a little male Downy.

I've seen Hairy Woodpeckers and LOTS of Flickers too.

I continue to hear and see one male Acorn Woodpecker.

Where the rest have gone to, I cannot say.

Bring your buddies!

After years and years of the birds preferring the feeders at the front of the house...

...this bird is a backyard bird.

I'll continue to watch - am hoping they successfully nest this spring.

Birds in Snow

Design - Egg Moon - Full Moon Series
Designer - The Little Stitcher
Fabric  - 32 count Zweigart Petit Point linen
Fibers - DMC - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 18 June 2022
Completed -  27 November 2022

Yes - a finish in 2022! Even though it is an April design, it looks like it might be snowing, right?
Guess what?

We had a few brief snow flurries on Thursday.

The Juncos are reliable snow birds.

They are not bother by the weather.

I like this shot.

There were also four Anna's out and about.

This male braved a feeder along the fence, but it does have a red dome which provides some cover from the snow.

Lots of Towhees eating.

And a little Downy Woodpecker.
What will the evening bring? More snow?

Bluebirds!

Perhaps I got a gentle reminder to start up working on this again.

I had a Sunday morning surprise

A small group of Bluebirds flew overhead singing.
My Merlin app helped to ID them.

They landed atop a tall Douglas fir tree.

The day was dull and overcast and they were at a distance...

So not the best photos.

Still such a wonderful gift to see.

As it turned out, there were four birds.

A bit closer

A bit closer still

My best photo.
If you enlarge it, it is possible to see the blue heads and the orange breasts.
What a great start to the week!

Great Birds

I think this Bluebird is going to be a great bird.

September = migration
And migration often brings gifts.

Gift number #1
A Black-throated Gray Warbler
I only managed one photo with the bird before my camera battery died.

Gift #2
I fared my better with the second September appearance of a Willow Flycatcher.

The birded posed

and posed.

Then posed some more.

I think it just got cuter

and cuter too.

I wonder if I'll get another September look before it migrates south.

I will wait with anticipation. Who knows what else September might bring.

Late Summer Rarities

Am I even still stitching?
That's a good question.  Yes I am, but not much or often.
This is one of The Little Stitcher's Full Moon series patterns.  It's of a branch a bird and an egg.

So rarities - these are birds I see infrequently, but when I do it is this time of year - late summer.

First off a Hermit Thrush

Robins are also a member of the thrush family and young robins share the speckled breast of the Hermit Thrush.

It is a rate nondescript bird, but has a lovely song.  Usually it hides out in the brush, so I was luck that it came 'out' to pose for me.

Second up, a male Wilson's Warblrt.

I've seen two birds at a time, but they flit abut so much, they are hard to capture.

This photo is pretty good.

Another good one.

This one is more typical of what I'm able to get.

And this back shot.

And lastly, a female Western Tanager.

She's about the size of an American Robin.

And she generally 'talks' which helps me to find her.

Lurking in the rose bed.

She's been by several mornings in a row.

Pretty Bird

You can see why I fondly refer to her as Banana Bird!
