They're back!

The bright yellow male American Goldfinches have returned.

Here's a photo with a good comparison of a male American Goldfinch on the right, and the smaller male Lesser Goldfinch on the left.

And this photo illustrates how much color variation there is in the male House Finches. Very different colors - same bird!

Wednesday's Wildflower Walk

A "untended" yard can reap wonderful rewards.

Mahonia aquifolium Oregon Grape

The Henderson's Shooting Stars (Dodecatheon hendersonii) are in bloom.

Daisies

Muscari

My maternal grandfather called these beauties Rooster Bills.

Also in bloom right now are drifts of Oregon Fawn Lilies (Erythronium oregonum).

My family has always called this wild flower "Lambs' Tongues"
for the mottled appearance of the leaves.

A trio.

Lovely color composition.

Lovely and ephemeral.

The first of the season.

A male Brown-headed Cowbird.

Bright black boy and a liquid sounding call.

I am continuing to see Black-capped Chickadees.

Am hoping that a pair choses to use one of my nesting boxes.

There's a chocolate bunny and here's a chocolate bird.

Male House Finch - based on their diet, their feather color can vary from yellow, to orange, to pink to red.

Golden-crowned Sparrow with bright breeding colors.

The flock also included a White-crowned Sparrow.

Also in bright breeding plumage.

Usually there is just one amongst all the Golden-crowns.

Always nice to see.
