Owl and Bluebirds

Design - "Little Boo"

Designer - The Cricket Collection
Fabric - 30 count Flax Field linen
Fibers - DMC - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - October 2015
Completed - 7 October 2015

On Saturday morning, I had a most wonderful surprise.
I looked over at the deer fence to see four or five Western Bluebird, each perched atop a fence post.

Fortunately, I had my camera at hand!
Here's a male.

And a female.

Two females.

And another.

A female and male.

A male.
They spoke quietly to one another for a couple of minutes, before taking off together and fly off to the south.  Western Bluebirds reside in the Willamette Valley all year long, but I have never seen one in October before.

Wednesday's Belated Walk

While some trees have lost their leaves...

Most are still in full color.

Enjoy the leaves, they won't last much longer.

Late Start Getting the Day Going

Design - "Fall Owl"
Designer - Pine Mountain Designs (kit)
Fabric - 30 count unknown linen
Fibers - DMC - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 8 October 2012
Finished - 9 October 2012

The kit came with a cute little frame for an instant finish!

I've been hearing Great Horned Owls conversing at night, but I've been seeing...

Bushtits!

Quite a sizable group came by the other day.

They hang every-which-way.

Bottom right still more are flying in.

Close-up of a female.

They are great fun to observe as they are never still.

And they chatter non-stop too.

A New Week

Design - "Patterned Pumpkin"
Chart - "Letters Part 3" #320
Designer - The Cricket Collection
Fabric - 30 count R & R Old Mill Java
Fibers - DMC - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 4 November 2013
Completed 7 November 2013

I've had a few of my more unusual birds lately.

While I often hear a Bewick's Wren, I don't often see the bird.

This one posed for a moment.

Far more common are the Black-capped Chickadees.

Isn't this an adorable ball of fluff?

I also have a nice group of Chestnut-backed Chickadees.

The two types seem to co-exist without battles.

And here is one of my rarer winter birds.
A White-throated Sparrow.

If you look carefully, you can see the two identifiers - the white patch on the throat and the yellow atop the eyes.

I am hopeful that I will continue to get glimpses as winter moves forward.

Sunday's Hummers

Lots of rainy eather this past week, so not many hummingbird photos.

Watching over the feeders

Having a bite to eat

Pollen on the bill

I still have lots of salvias in bloom
