Flycatcher Mystery

Design - "August"
Chart - "Summer and Winter"
Designer - The Prairie Schooler
Fabric - 28 count Lambswool linen
Fibers - DMC - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 21 August 2010
Completed - 30 August 2010

Well here's a Black-capped Chickadee.  That's easy enough.

This though...

It's a Flycatcher - but which one?

I never heard it speak, but my Merlin app said that there'd been a Dusky Flycatcher in the area.

I've looked at photos - and it is possible, but I'm not certain.
If so it'd be a new Yard Bird for me.
UPDATE: Better Birders seem to think it is a Pacific Slope Flycatcher.

Wednesday's Walk

The wildfire smoke is drifting elsewhere.

Let's go outside.

It's late August - but there are signs of Fall's approach.
Acorn

oak Galls

Queen Anne's Lace

Spent Thistles

Hazel brush is still bright green

But the Cow's Parsnip is taupe.

My stand of Pearly Everlasting is greatly diminished.

I could only find one small straggly plant.

Colors of autumn -- Bracken Fern

Blackberries

Blackberries in abundance

Pine Needles carpet the ground.

 Hey Acorn Woodpeckers!  Look!

See you next week.

Wonderful Wren

Design - "Ladybug Picnic"
Designer - Just My Imagination
Fabric - 19 count Antique White Cork linen
Fibers - Caron Collection
Started - 10 April 1999
Completed - 12 April 1999

Goodness but this is an oldie for sure - 24 years ago I whipped this out in three days.  I haven't stitched on 19 fabric in decades now - I think the fibers were Caron Collection of some sort - but what sold me on this design were the buttons.

While late August is a bit quieter, there are still some fun birds out and about.

Here's a cheerful Bewick's Wren.

They usually do not sit still.

I was pleased to get off a few shots.

This one is pretty good.

Also had a pair of Hairy Woodpeckers.

Here's the first.

And the second bird.

Two American Goldfinches.

And hey - look who's here!

A White-breasted Nuthatch!

Iconic Nuthatch pose!

They rarely come to the feeders up at the house,

...but do occasionally frequent the Big Feeder down on a large second Growth Douglas fir tree.
