Sunday's Hummers - The Male Rufous Edition

He is just one of those annoy Summer People.

Aggressive and here for the good weather!

But oh, is he ever a Pretty Boy!

He sat for me for several minutes.

This shows how dark is gorget is without direct sunlight.

And here it gleams in the sunlight.

I truly enjoy watching this tiny bundle of energy.

Hummingbirds are living miracles, aren't they?

Saturday's Critters

We run the gamut of critters this week.

From a little chipmunk... 

To a chipmunk with a brush rabbit.

Barry's antlers visibly change each time he see him.

The pace of growth is amazing.

Our most recent bear sighting was back on 4/20/

This was at dusk, the feeders had been taken inside, and the bear was peacefully grazing.

Far, far away I spied an Orange-crowned Warbler in a Big Leaf Maple.  

So far away the photo is a bit blurry.

This is a better one.

And here is one much closer in.

If you look closely you can see the pale orange atop its head.

Nice!

I even had TWO of them at the same time!

This I think is my best photo.

I LOVE MIGRATION!!! (Yes, I'm yelling!)

Another oldie but a goodie.

We're getting more serious about nesting around here.

The Violet-Green Swallows are beginning to stake out boxes.

Does it have a good view?

I don't think I've ever had a Chestnut-backed Chickadee interested in the unprocessed cotton ball (nesting material).

Talk about a cute little guy/gal.

Tugging mightily.

Wednesday's Walk

Wet cool days have been the norm until  Tuesday.

Most mornings I wake up to see raindrops on the Douglas fir trees.

It's not bad weather for growth and renewal.

The Big Leaf Maples are budding just in time for the return of the Grosbeaks.

More new growth.

How delicate they are!

The wild Flowering Currants are in bloom.

The hummingbirds love these plants.

Green and growing.

We have to hybrid Currants.

The male Rufous attempts to guard BOTH of these large shrubs.

I continue to enjoy the play of light on this dogwood.
 We have three or four days of warm weather 70's to low 80's before it dips back down into the 60's again.
