Another Siskin Winter?

Design - "Thanksgiving" (kit)
Designer - Heart in Hand
Fabric -32 count Summer Khaki Belfast linen
Fibers - GAST & WDW - 2 threads over 2 strands
Started - 20 November 2011
Completed - 22 November 2011

I think it is going to be another Pine Siskin winter.

I counted a mixed flock of 30 Pine Siskins and Lesser Goldfinches the other day.

Bright yellow birds are the Lessers.

They are both all about Sunflower chips.

There were also lots of Siskins waiting their turn.

They are the type of bird that flocks together.

This means I'll be buying bird food more often this winter!

Sunday's Hummers

Still seeing a higher than average number of Anna's for this time of year 5, 6, and 7 at a time!

Some of the males patrol from up high.

Some from down low.

Bright Beauty!

Two on the same feeder!

No, wait! No there are three birds!

About 4 in the afternoon a cease-fire seems to go into effect and the birds share!

What a delight!

Thanksgiving

Wishing Everyone
A Most Happy Thanksgiving!

James and Margaret Waning - Thanksgiving 1966

My maternal grandparents. For years they hosted their three daughters' families for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Hope you are all able to safely celebrate with good food, friends, and family.

Taking it Slow

Design - "Tall Turkey" (kit)
Designer - Heart in Hand
Fabric - 32 count Tobacco linen
Started - 22 November 2001
Completed - 25 November 2001

I am scheduled to work today. If you have the day off, I hope that you are taking it slow.

Maybe this will be a Pine Siskin Winter after all.
I've seen a small flock for several days now.

The male Lesser Goldfinch is among the most colorful birds this time of year.

The yellow feathers stay bright all year.

His lady-friend is more muted.

Wednesday's Walk

Off we go on a walk.

Raindrops on fir boughs

A muddy path down to Dorothy's Creek.
The work of deer and bear, but also a beaver?

Dorothy's Creek now has a dammed pool - a beaver's work?

The cottonwoods glow against the blue sky

Here's the Big Creek.

Moss and lichens

Muddy prints at the edge of the Big Creek - again, beaver?

There's now a good sized dam in the Big Creek and one night when we came home we saw a beaver eating grass at the edge of the driveway.

Bright cottonwood leaf to send you on your way!

Small Birds

I picked up The Little Stitcher's "Snow Bird" the other evening and made some good progress.  I have to add snowflakes and snow on the branches and some green needles on the bough.

I've been blessed with a lot of Black-capped Chickadees.

I enjoy their energy and cheerful chatter.

This may turn out to be a Pine Siskin winter after all.

I've seen as many as 14 at the feeder.  Uncertain if they are going to stay or are just passing through.
