I have been looking for this chart for three or four years now.
I have all the other Birds of a Feather "Animals Sayings", but not this one.
It recently came up as part of a listing for an assortment of twelve charts. I bid and was outbid - by lots! So I asked the seller if she had another copy and would be willing to list it separately. She did so, and I placed a bid and won! So now I can add this to my March Stitching List.
Speaking of birds...
As dawn breaks the chorus of Robins erupts while the Great Horned Owls get in a few last words. I have anywhere between 20-50 Robins at dawn and dusk.
You may have noticed that Robins often tilt their heads as though they are listening for worms. I just listed to a podcast that said Robins tilt their head to watch for minute movements that indicate the presence of worms. So they are looking, not listening!
The amount of light can change the appearance of a bird.
This is a Pine Siskin in the early morning.
Here's a Pine Siskin at mid-day.
Here's one in the rain.
A House Finch and Pine Siskin in the rain.
I was pleased to have a pair of Lesser Goldfinches come by.
The male is quite handsome.
And I think he knows it too.
On Friday I heard a familiar sound. I looked up to see six Violet-green Swallows flying high in the sky. They are among the first Spring migrants to return. Soon they will begin house-hunting. Last year we had the exterior of the house and shop painted in the month of April and they did not like the commotion. I am hoping for full occupancy of my many bird houses this year.
Good for you! I know the thrill of the hunt on ebay. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to get that one! To have any of them, really. Hooray! I'm happy for you! Love that the spring migrants are starting to show up. Hope your bird houses are fully occupied this year.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! It always feels so good to finally get that elusive chart. Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so glad you got the owl chart! A full set! Now let the stitching games begin!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get the sparrow nesting again this year. We've never had them here. Actually I don't see many sparrows around our house. I do hope the bush tit comes back though and rebuild its nest from last year!
Congrats my dear xx
ReplyDeleteThat goldfinch is very handsome! Well done on getting your missing chart - how lucky was that?!
ReplyDeleteIt is a true thrill to finally purchase something you've wanted for a while! I hate to scroll through ebay because I always find something!!!
ReplyDeleteLook at all those pretty bird colors! So bright!
We have lots of robins here, too!
It pays to ask. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteBeth, Congratulations on winning your missing chart! It is so exciting when that happens.
ReplyDeleteI am marveling at the number of robins you see at one time. I get excited if I see 2-3 (non yet).
Great pictures of the hummingbirds on Sunday's post.
Here's hoping you have lots of tenants in your birdhouses! Wanda
Oh how exciting... I have been for the longest time looking for the owl... And the lamb in this series... I have all the others... And just completed the bug and am working on the lizard. They are a BLAST to stitch. Keep us posted. I can't wait to see your piece.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got the owl. It always feels good to get a chart that you really want. I love the lesser goldfinch and the pine siskin. I don't think I have had either of them at my feeder.
ReplyDeleteOooooo, that is a find! So many of those BoaF charts are getting SCARCE now. I regret not buying more of them when they were still in print. (It's weird though because someone has CLEARLY started making some of these patterns easily available again recently, and for their regular prices. Makes me wonder if the rest of the catalog is going to be reprinted at some point? Why reprint just SOME of them?)
ReplyDeleteTus bordados y fotos son maravillosos, yo también amo a los pájaros!!,
ReplyDeleteGreat on the win! More later... I see the little tuft on the Siskin's head--that would help me id them as opposed to a House Finch! Love all the pictures of course!
