Clear and Cold

As tomorrow is the first of December, I've been looking at the charts I might stitch.  Once again I am going with a reindeer theme - though this year a Christmas owl or two might sneak in.

We had several cold nights with morning lows of 18°F.

Everyone was hungry on a cold, frosty morning.

The Oregon Juncos puffed up against the cold.

It's nice to have some natural down to act as insulation.

Cold mornings = Clear Blue Skies

One morning I was treated to a skein of 75 or so Canada Geese.

I played with the settings on my camera and switched over to "sports".

The setting allowed me to zoom in and capture a shot or two without the blurs that movement often causes.

I loved how the morning light played off the birds.

As a grade-schooler, one of my favorite books was "Black and Blue Magic" about a boy who could fly.  I was totally enamored with the premise and still am!

  1. Love your new header Beth! (I think I say that every month). Reindeer are so cute. I have been stitching on one but have not had a lot of time for stitching just lately. Most of our Canada geese have flown south already but there are a surprising number that stay all winter.
Love the pictures of the puffed up Junco!

  4. Pretty new header! How exciting to see your Dec charts you plan to stitch. And great photos of all the birds. It's been cold here but only in the high 30's low 40's. That's warmer than you.
    love Annette

  7. Wonderful photos of the geese! We are having a big pollution problem here because of the inversion! It is pretty nasty. Plus people are still burning outside. I just don't get that .

  8. Hi, Isn't it a great feeling to begin a new project and Christmas stitching has to be the best. I wonder if your geese were my geese a few weeks ago. Interesting thought. We still have some v's flying overhead and Hubby says they are the ones that stay here all winter...silly things. I had never seen an Oregon Junco before...lovely little fellow. We have only the black and grayish Northern Junco here.
