In western Oregon April begins the Open Garden season.  On Sunday my sister and I visited two woodland gardens in southwest Eugene.

The first garden was a small delight.

The house and property are sited on a slope. Many folks would think that might preclude gardening.  Not so!

This couple has lovingly created a little gem.

They even have a small alpine / rock garden.

I think spring must be an especially pretty time in this garden.

There are lots of native plants, ferns and rhododendrons.

The second garden is also located on a sloping hillside, but is much larger - over an acre in scope.

They even have a seasonal creek that wanders through the garden.

Once again, this is a garden that celebrates native plants.

Camas, Fawn Lilies, and Currants.

As a woodland garden, it is the perfect setting for a collection of rhododendrons.

The blue Camas in the foreground sets off the bright yellow Azalea behind.

What a treat on a sunny April Sunday.
Two super gardens. I'm so glad the owners decided to share them with others.

  1. Good morning, Beth! Oh what beautiful gardens! I think the small one is really cute because that's more the size of ours (though mine doesn't look this good!).

The little chicks stitch is so cute!
