Ready for New Occupants

Design - "March"
Chart - "A Prairie Year"
Designer - The Prairie Schooler
Fabric - 28 count Lambswool linen
Fibers - DMC - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 2 April 2016
Completed - 3 April 2016

It was past time to take down the nesting boxes and clean them out for a new season.

A House Wren built this nest.
Lots of twigs and a few feathers.

Violet-green Swallows used this box.

The nest was tightly packed.

Dried grasses on the bottom and an array of feathers from different birds to line the cup.

Sadly there was an egg that was not viable.
I've not yet seen or heard swallows. Last year they did not arrive until early April.

  1. Darling PS Shamrock stitch, Beth! I put it on my list for April. What interesting nests you cleaned out of the boxes! Thanks for the reminder.
