No males in sight. I read on Facebook that a New Mexican National Park was on alert for the first male Rufous Hummingbirds to show up on their return to Central and South America. They show up in mid-March and leave by mid-July.
I do have several Anna's (females). Here they are arguing...
Looking mean
Looking stern
Looking sideways
Scratching an itch
Smiling!
Wow, that little Anna does appear to have facial expressions, she certainly looks stern in the one photo and smiling in the other! Enjoyable photos as always. Mary
ReplyDeleteSo enjoying your hummingbirds! We've not seen a single one this year - I blame the bunnies who nibbled the tops of our lobelia before they even got going ... though I can't bear to chase them.
ReplyDeleteI would have never imagine they can have so many (and funny) expressions :-) By the way as the crows here have -too-, I guess it's just us, humans, who sometimes forget how wonderful mother nature is !
ReplyDeleteI am not getting the same hummingbird traffic that I had earlier in the summer. I just assumed that they have a great number of options around here as the summer progresses, so why come to my artificial feeder? I do still occasionally see two of them chasing each other - I am guessing it's territory they are fighting over. Your pictures are precious!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! I don't think I have seen a picture of a hummer with it's mouth open like you show here. What a moment! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteSpectacular photos of the hummingbirds ❤️ My males have been gone since before the 4th very early this year, I usually have a few that stick around till August! Just love these little birds so miss them when they leave.....have a great week!
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures!! Two houses down, a bear got another feeder. It's been quite the year for them.
