Taking care of the birds during the ice storm is rewarding and joyful. I feel a responsibility to make sure they have food and water all year, but there is a special urgency when the weather is terrible.
The woodpeckers were out in force.
Here's the male Hairy Woodpecker.
Here's the female Hairy Woodpecker.

It was a challenge to detach the frozen feeders and refill them.
The female Acorn Woodpecker and crew finished off a large cylinder feeder of mix nuts in just a few days. In 'normal' weather it would last three weeks.
Here's a male Flicker.
I saw as many as three Flickers at a time.
Protein like suet and peanuts helps the birds with calories to fight the cold.
I love this little ornament. :D

How I love all your stitchery and most especially your photographs. I think you should publish a book of photographs. They are all so incredibly wonderful. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Thank you for taking care of the Oregon birds during the horrible weather (our kids are keeping us filled in) ... we left for Florida just a few days before the first one hit. Good timing on our part for a change. One thing I do miss about our current life is my bird feeders.
ReplyDeleteThe birds are lucky to have you, Beth! And we are all lucky to have their beautiful photos that you share with us :)
ReplyDeleteBeth, I am so glad you are there for those Oregon birds during this bad weather.
ReplyDeleteMan! I am two days behind, but I sure hope that the ice has melted by now... It looks like it could be detrimental to the birds! Glad you take the time to tussle with getting the feeders down to be refilled... worth it!! Hugs!
