I finally got around to starting Heartstring Samplery's "Western Tanager" and have stitched the female of the pair. The colors are perfect and I have to wonder why I took so long to get started.
I haven't seen a Tanager lately, but I have seen...
...a Cooper's Hawk.
Scrub Jay
And yes, the quail. The youngsters are such messy looking birds as they grow and develop their adult plumage.
Don't they look like a group of teenagers hanging around talking after school?
Here's what the guys are striving for!
There are a couple of very young birds yet.
I think this could be a Hallmark card for Father's Day.
I still have Starlings, but they do not often come to the feeders which pleases me.
The past few days I've seen several American Robins.
And after several week's hiatus, I am now seeing a House Finch or two.
The Oregon Juncos have also been absent lately. I am now seeing one or two birds most mornings.
As I mentioned yesterday, the American Goldfinches are omnipresent - though in very muted colors.
I love all of your bird stitching. Do you frame your stitching?
ReplyDeleteI never noticed before that some of the quail have two little topknots!
And even though starlings can be a bit obnoxious, I do love how their feathers change colors in different light.
Your stitched birds are almost as lovely as the real ones!
ReplyDeleteLovely bird pictures (as usual) - the father's day one and the finch hiding in the berries are delightful! Careful about that junco, though! My mom was always superstitious about juncos because she said whenever she saw one we had big snows within a few days. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, you have quite a variety of birds in your area. We have robins, blue jays, grey doves, cardinals and sparrows, but not nearly as many as you have. Love the pictures and the cross-stitch.
ReplyDeleteWhat a greats election of birds - and I also liked the spidery visitor in one the flower pictures in the post that followed.

Why DID you delay stitching that bird one?? I enjoyed seeing the many birds you have around your yard... quite the selection. And Yes, that shot would make a beautiful Father's Day card!! Hugs!
