I've mentioned that I am now taking down all my bird feeders each evening.
Because one morning this was scene of the crime that greeted me.
Friday evening just about 8:00pm as the sun was setting...
I got out my trusty garden cart and began to pick up the bird feeders.
I started in the front of the house, and the wheeled the cart around to the west side to admire the sunset and stroll down to get the feeders on a large Douglas fir tree.
I did not walk far as the Bird Feeder Bandit was hard at work.
The yearling beer had taken down the largest of the feeders and was munching away.
Here he's using his tongue to slurp up the seeds.
We yelled and clapped our hands, but the bear was not bothered by the commotion.
We walked a bit closer and he climbed up the tree.
I decided not to get any closer and to take care of the feeders in the backyard first. My father was able to run the bear off and get the feeders. So now I think I need to take down the feeders a bit earlier in the evening!
What a story! And with pictures to boot!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!! What a smart baby, even if unwelcome. I do love the photos, though.
ReplyDeleteA bear is the LAST creature that I'd have guessed at! Your pictures are very good and we can even see the expression on the bear's face. He looks just like and youngster caught in the act and not at all penitent!
ReplyDeleteWOW! What great pictures!! I didn't even think about a bear being the cause of that but I did wonder what did it? Oh my - what a bold little guy he is! Yikes!
ReplyDeleteThe pictures of your bird feeder bandit are fabulous. I know you love feeding the birds, but he/she will continue to come as long as the food source remains. Be careful out there!
ReplyDeleteWhat a RASCAL he is!
ReplyDeleteI have to applaud you that you get out to take those feeders up and down every day!
ReplyDeleteOh my! Not the bandit I thought it would be. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteOMG - the photo of the bear hiding behind the tree and showing one ear and one eye is priceless! Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWow!! I think I would have headed back into the house after spotting the bear.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Beth! That is very scary! I think I told you that my neighbor down the street has to take hers in at night too, same reason!
ReplyDeleteWow! A little too close for comfort! A daring fellow, he is!
ReplyDeleteHoley Moley!! And your yelling and clapping didn't scare it off?? Yikes! Can you call someone to trap them and move them to a different area, away from humans? That is too scary!!
