I am becoming more and more enamored with the color combination of pink and brown.
The Red-breasted Nuthatches are infrequent visitors to my feeders. As they seem to prefer the cover of a forest canopy, the open areas around my feeders are not much to their liking. Nonetheless, there have been a pair of birds at the feeders the last few days.
The Golden-crowned Sparrows are winter regulars. They are ground feeders by choice, but will also happily work away at the seeds I leave atop the Big Woodpile.
I mentioned earlier that I was worried about the status of my small group of California Quail. Given the size and colors of the feathers, this looked like a hawk strike with a quail as the victim. I am happy to report that as of yesterday I still have seven California Quail. I suppose the feather might also have belonged to a Black-capped Chickadee.
On a happier note, a male Orange-shafted Flicker posed in a tree near the suet feeders.
I don't think I've ever had the opportunity to see the brilliant orange tail feathers displayed so well.
East of the Mississippi, Flickers are Yellow-shafted.
Adorably, sweet finish.
ReplyDeleteGuess what colors I am wearing right now?! Pink turtleneck under a brown fleece top.
Yes, I feel the same way about pink and brown, Beth, but love blue and brown even more :) That is such a cute finish and my, what a handsome bird that Orange-Shafted Flicker is. His coloring is fantastic as is the photo you captured of him!
ReplyDeleteI love that pink and brown, too! I made several Valentine ornaments in those colors because of some cute finishing fabric I had!!
ReplyDeleteI think that flicker was posing for you! What wonderful photography!!! He's stunning!
Beautiful bird photos as always Beth but especially that Flicker. I love pink/brown too and also blue/brown.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics of the flicker! I'm so glad the quail are all ok. Love your finish too!
ReplyDeleteLove the heart finish! So pretty. I don't think I've ever seen a flicker. What a pretty bird!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the way the Flicker posed for you and the tail feathers are spectacular! Collector's Heart is lovely. Pink and brown are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteLove the heart finish and seeing the beads up close.myour bird pictures are fabulous.
ReplyDeleteGreat finish. And the combination of pink and brown looks really well. Good choice.
ReplyDeleteI love pink and brown and also blue and brown combinations. Hard to pick favorites. The Flicker shots are fantastic! What a sight--the tail is so brilliant! I can't wait till I see a Flicker out here! I saw some last summer in the back, so I know I will see them eventually! That's too bad about the feathers/bird... Part of the cycle of life, but not a happy part. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely colour combination. A pretty bird too.
ReplyDeleteBeth, what outstanding pictures of the flicker! He is just gorgeous!!
