I still like the simplicity of this Valentine stitch.

Some of our mornings start with fog. The dull skies encourage the Robins to linger.

Red-breasted Nuthatches grab a sunflower seed, then dart to a tree where they cache the seed for future use.

I enjoy watching them work away at their food stash.

I haven't had many House Finches this winter, and the Pine Siskins have mostly left the area - so I have a bit of a Finch Drought at the moment.  By April I should have Grosbeaks and Goldfinches and be in Finch Heaven once again.

While I am not in the least fond of Starlings, I will grant that their feather pattern in pretty in its own way.

The Starlings battle with the Acorn Woodpeckers over the feeders, fortunately the Acorns are tough and run off the Starlings.

Here's a female Acorn.

Here's a male Acorn.

I had two birds splashing away at a bird bath while this one waited its turn.

The morning migration of geese is an almost daily occurrence.

  2. Nuthatches always crack me up the way they appear to walk upside down on the trees. Always love seeing your pictures.

  3. I agree with you about the Starlings. I think I've been hearing Robins, but I haven't actually seen any. A nearby friend took pictures of 2 Robins in her yard the other day. Love the Sweet Exemplary piece.

  4. That is such a pretty design. I'm glad the Acorn Woodpeckers are winning the battle with the starlings!

  5. There is something really appealing about the simplicity of the Sweet Exemplary design. And the acorn woodpeckers photos are fab -- you do seem to attract a lot of woodpeckers. They are some of my favorite birds.
