For many folks the return of Robins is one of the earliest signs of spring.

While I am still Pickle-sitting, I did spend a bit of time at home on Saturday.
Solomon 'helped' me...

...while Padma and Tom-Cat enjoyed the sunny afternoon.

Song Sparrows are pretty mundane looking BBBs - Basic Brown Birds!  Their song though is very melodious and up-lifting.

They live in all 50 states in the winter then migrate to the northern half of the US and into Canada to breed.  If you'd like to hear their cheerful tune, take a listen their 'Typical Voice' here.

I had a couple of Anna's Hummingbirds at the feeders.  I must say even the belly feathers are pretty on this bird!

A few weeks ago, I set up a third feeder near the kitchen window.
The hummers have finally found it!

Here's part of the reason why I go through 20 lbs of peanut a month!
Greedy Steller's Jays!

And interestingly the Black-headed Evening Grosbeaks also are peanut fans.
Someone asked about the name Grosbeak and as they thought it does mean 'large beak'. The French called them 'Gros bek errant' and the name was only partially translated to Grosbeak in English.

The Evening Grosbeaks do not appear to be interested in peanuts.  They have however, found the sunflower feeder I placed on the eaves of the Front Porch.

  2. Really cute finish, Beth--haven't seen that one before! Robins--oh, we're dealing with a real looney-tune one here. He repeatedly flies into the window in our den. We thought that by putting the screen in, that would stop this behavior. Nope! Next we'll be trying long plastic strips hanging outside, I guess!

  8. Oh I like the robin stitching. The variance in the floss color makes you have boy and girl robins. :)
