Great Spring / Easter colors! I'm thinking of adding a tiny bunny button on the left side of the carrot.

It was over 70F on Monday and the wildflowers were everywhere.
Let's take a walk and enjoy the ephemeral spring display.

The aptly named Swamp Buttercups (Rannunculus occidentalis) are blooming.  When they finish the Lupins will follows (Lupin leaves at the bottom of the photo).

The Oregon Fawn Lilies (Erythronium oregonum) are at their peak delighting in the dappled shade of the forest floor.

The Camas (Cammassia quamash) have just begun to bloom.  In a couple of weeks one of the nearby fields will be a sea of blue Camas and yellow buttercups against a background new green grass.

This neighbor has the best (and largest display) of Shooting Stars (Dodecatheon hendersonii).  Though I must say that it is not as robust as past years.  I wonder if our cold weather in February had an impact.

Every once in a while a few of our native Trilliums sport a pink flower.

Here's something to look forward to in a month or so.
Our native Tiger Lily (Lilium columbianum) will be in bloom then.

I didn't make it to my 'secret orchid spot', nonetheless in an new location I found a couple of Lady Slippers (Calypso bulbosa). They are such a small delicate flower.

And here's another super surprise.  I found a small colony of wild Chocolate Lilies (Fritillaria camschatcensis ).

The most abundant flower this time of year, is that of the Big Leaf Maple.  I am SO glad that I do not have allergies or I'd be in big trouble!  The brick and cement on our back patio has turned yellow with all the pollen floating about.

The Corn Lilies (Veratrum californicum) seem particularly exuberant this year.

The plums are done, and now the wild cherries take the stage.

After all the other violets have finished blooming, the Wood Violets (Viola glabella) come into their own.  We have a nice display of them near Dorothy's Creek.

These bluebells (Scillia hispanica) don't really count as wildflowers.  They are however, growing wild in one of our meadows and we have now idea how they got there.

Even though we've lived on this property for over six years, I continue to find new plants.  Just this week I found a very nice Red-flowering Currant (Ribes sanguineun). It has been 'hiding' right at the edge of our driveway near the house all these years.  It is somewhat hidden in a a tangle of blackberries.  That's probably helped it grow to its current size (pun!) by keeping the deer from munching on it.

The very first of the Blue Iris (Iris tenax) are now in bloom.  In a couple of weeks our meadows should be a sea of blues and purples.

I'll end our Wildflower Walk today with a plant that has really staying power.  The Grand Hound's Tongue (Cynoglossum grande) is in its 4th week now and still going strong.
