Since Thanksgiving ended this PS turkey has been languishing on the back burner :). (I thought of that turkey humor sentence days ago and could hardly wait to write it!). I think he'll end up moving into my WIP rotation and I will get him finished up come what may.
I'd like to invite you along on a mid-December walk, but must warn you it is cold and damp and the snow still lingers in the deep shade.
See what I mean? My track are in the center as the tire track lanes are either too icy or too muddy and thus too slippery to safely navigate.
Beneath the Oaks spots of color pop up unexpectedly.
Mosses and lichens in bright greens.
This meadow bordering the Big Creek still has a thin blanket of snow.
As the snow melts the creek rises with brown rushing water.
While this hole may not be much to look at at first glance, it is rather interesting. In August when the ground had turned hard and baked, a hungry bear with a very good nose found an underground bee hives nest. The strength of the creature was truly amazing has it tore apart the concrete-like soil and unearthed the nest. Poor bees!
In mid-December much of the forest is brown and taupe and drear.
The moss covered rocks in Dorothy's creek provide a small bit of color.
But the fog and gray dominate the landscape.
Nonetheless, this is wonderful growing weather for young Douglas Fir trees.
I'm off to try and get my Christmas organized. Wish me luck!
Brrr! Still snow! Wow about that hole. Did you see it happen??? Love your turkey. Back burner -- lolol!
ReplyDeleteWe still have ankle deep snow here too! But today dawns bright and sunny! YAY! Its been ugly for days. And I hear we are getting 50 degree weather by the end of the week and then back to the deep freeze and snow! :)
ReplyDeleteDespite the fog and gray, it's a beautiful December walk. I like how you always find the bits of color among the drear!
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to have such a beautiful walk so close to your home, I love to see your photo's.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing photos of your lovely walk. It feels chilly just looking at them, but also kinda cozy too!
ReplyDeleteTurkey on the back-burner! lol.
It's funny how we come to a standstill with a project and then the season for it is over. I'm the world's worst for doing this. Things are a bit grey everywhere just now - leftover snow isn't pretty.
ReplyDeleteStill looks cold.
ReplyDeleteTurkey looks beautiful, come on, let's finish it. Thanks for the tour :)
ReplyDeleteYour turkey is looking great! I really do love all things PS. I am working on one of the Christmas ornaments from the Button Up book. It's a little boy making a snow angel. I do so enjoy your walks and as always, the pictures are great!
ReplyDeleteI think that is the prettiest turkey I've seen; I'm going to have to get that pattern. Loved your walk with the mosses and lichen. What is inside the bee's nest? Does the bear ingest the bees? He was probably hungry before his long sleep!
ReplyDeleteYour turkey is looking good! Love the pops of color you found on your walk. It is amazing what animals will do for food!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful walk. One has to appreciate the dreary to like living up here. Very funny turkey comment.
ReplyDeleteYour turkey is looking great! Bear?!!
ReplyDeleteIt's dreary here, too, Beth, but is supposed to be in the 60s on Sunday! Absolutely crazy for December in Pennsylvania :) Nice progress on the PS turkey!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place to walk, Beth. I love the moss and lichen--they really stand out against the bleak background. We are pretty fortunate, because it's mostly turned to rain, but today is cold and sunny. I'm working on redoing our upstairs library, so have been painting and re-arranging things.
ReplyDeleteSince today is the official start of winter, I guess we should expect things to be dreary, frozen, slowing down, etc. But you always find something great to post about, besides stitching of course! Funny play on words about the turkey!
