"Spring Violets" by Hands to Work is the final piece I had framed this past summer.
I began stitching "Spring Violets" back in 2007 and set it aside as stitching on the 40 count R & R Inkspot Black linen proved to be very challenging. I picked it up again in February 2009 and finished it up a week or so later. The dark fabric, combined with the small count, was tough on my 50+ year old eyes.
I did think the hopeful sentiment was fitting for everyone who has suffered the effects of Super Storm Sandy. With damage and destruction everywhere, it must hard to believe that things will get better...but they will.
I picked a fairly simple gold-toned frame to mirror the left stitched border.
I like the generous margins which show off the mottled fabric.

ReplyDeleteThe frame is just right. I agree with you , the sentiments are just right. I have never stitched on black. There is a PS Christmas one I would like to do but I'm not sure with my 60 plus old eyes. What do you think? Was it really difficult?

ReplyDeleteGosh, that fabric is pretty, isn't it? It's not too often that the stitching AND the fabric share equal weight in a piece. Very nice!
