This is a great little design - Halloween themed with owls!

It's Wednesday.
Let's take a walk and admire the leaves.

Nothing beats a Sweetgum for a blaze of color.

Even the Himalayan Blackberry vines are pretty this time of year.

I'm not sure what this tree is, it may be a Cherry.

Our Paperbark Maple is just beginning to turn.

The Big Leaf Maples are dropping their leaves now.  Many of the trees are stressed from lack of water and the leaves are turning from green straight to brown.

The Hazelnut leaves become a lovely butter-yellow.

I noticed all the bright red fruits of the Dogwoods are gone.  Someone has had a nice Fall Banquet!  Still, the leaves add some nice color.

Our bridge over the Big Creek looks like "...the road less taken."

The Pacific Ninebark shows off its autumn color.

The Vine Maples are either a mixture of green and yellow...

...or entirely a reddish/brown.

The Ash tree leaves are blotches of green, and yellow, and brown before finally dropping to the ground.

Here's a mix of leaves at the edge of the forest.

We'll end the walk by admiring the autumn color of our Maple.  We were 'gifted' it by neighbors six years ago.  The tree is now over 20 feet tall and holding its own with its Douglas Fir neighbors.  I don't the name of the variety, but it sure does provide a nice burst of October color.

  1. The colours of nature through every season just delight. I think Spring and Autumn are my favourites.

  4. Gotta love more owls! Looks like you have some nice fall color going on in your neck of the forest.

I think we are at the peak color change right now, but we've had alot of rain and very strong winds, so those beautiful leaves are being stripped off the trees.

  5. Very nice finish!

Question for you....I am NOT good at plants/gardening. The landscape guy put in some Hostas. Are we supposed to cut them back for the winter?
