Red White and Blue

On the 3rd of July 1776, John Adam's wrote to his wife Abigail about the newly signed Declaration of Independence and how it might be commemorated:

"I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God

Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more."

Back in the day, my family, with its road-building and quarrying background, like to begin the 4th of July with an explosion from a stick of dynamite!  While I don't think you should go overboard, I do encourage you to get out there and march in a parade or play a baseball game, and be sure and watch some pyrotechnic displays!

My garden is celebrating Independence Day in a swirl of red, white, and blue,
