So there's a bit of a story here. This chart has two designs - one of a large samper, the other design utilizes the bottom 1/2 of the sampler and is also called "Liberty Sampler". I stitched it last July - you can see it here. Well, I pulled out the chart and cut my fabric only to find that I'd already stitch the smaller of the two samplers, and did not have enough fabric to stitch the larger one.  What to do?  I decide to stitch the top 1/2 of the sampler. To make it work out I added the USA from the bottom 1/2 of the sampler and the white border.  I think it turned out well - making lemonade out of a lemon.

Sunday night a Great Blue Heron flew overhead - a majestic bird.

My nyger thistle feeder is very popular with the finches.

A male Black-headed Grosbeak.

A female Purple Martin.  I hear and see Purple Martins most days as they chatter flying high in the sky.  Once in a while they perch and I get a better view.

Last Friday and Saturday I had larger numbers of Evening Grosbeaks.
As it turns out they gathered to head on up to higher elevations.  I now am seeing one or two young birds, most have moved on.  I will miss their clarion-clear "chirr" and bright yellow brows.

As if to make up for the departure of the Evening Grosbeaks, a Willow Flycatcher came by Sunday evening and put on quite the show.

Flycatcher perch atop a tree and then fly out on short sorties to catch insects.

They then return to the perch to consume their meal.

"Yummy!"

The small bird was very aggressive and drove off any American Goldfinch that dared to intrude in 'his' territory.  He entertained up for 30 minutes or more before moving on.

  4. Yes, you did make lemonade... great job! I thought the GBH was some new one, with the extra color on it's wings... till I realized it was sunlight! ha! I think the birds are leaving here too... sad face... I would love to actually see a Willow Flycatcher! Thought we heard one, then saw 'something' fly out then back in to the bushes... just doesn't work for me! Good pictures! Hugs!
