Stitching a Snowman on a Mild Sunny Day

I know that most of the country is suffering from an Arctic blast of cold air. But here in the Pacific NW, you'd be forgiven for thinking that it is April instead of January.  Today was started out foggy, but soon the sun appeared and it was in the mid-50s. Weird weather as a backdrop for stitching snowmen!

The Acorn Woodpeckers appear to be enjoying the mild weather.

Here's fat and fluffy Junior Woodpecker.

There are often two or three birds at the feeders, while a couple of more wait their turns high atop a Big Leaf Maple tree.

The birds seem to all get along for the most part.

There doesn't seem to be any male dominance over the females.

Maybe that's because there are plenty of peanuts for all!

Monday afternoon I had a record six Flickers all working away in the grass.

They enjoy munching on ants as well as suet.

I had a nice mix of male and female, mature and juvenile.

I have started out the year horribly behind on reading and commenting on the many blogs I follow.  I've also been remiss about answering the many comments I've received here.  I am trying to decide whether to throw in the towel and begin anew, or try slow to catch up.

  1. A lovely sweet guy that you are stitching now.
I know the problem about being behind with blog reading. It's hard to catch up when you want to leave comments as well. Good luck with catching up.

  2. Love all those acorn woodpeckers. They are such pretty birds. Sometimes it's just time to throw in the towel and start fresh. Good luck!

  3. Throw in the towel and start afresh Beth, you should never feel that you have to comment or reply - it takes the fun out of it. Lucky you having all those flickers.

  4. I love that Bent Creek ornament--it is really cute! And of course, love the birds. I JUST got caught up on reading blogs yesterday... Hard to know if you should throw in the towel--depends on how many there are! Ha!

  5. How lucky to have temps in the 50s. We currently have many things closed today due to the cold temps here, and wind chills of -30. brrr to say the least.

  9. Don't worry Beth, life happens. Just do what you can. You are so great about responding that if you get the odd day you can't, just let it go.
Great pictures of the amazing acorns and fabulous flickers!
(cute snowman too - so jealous of your weather, it is -22 C here with windchill and to be colder tomorrow!)

  10. It is the month for stitching snowmen! Our birds are as active as if it were cold. As for my blog, don't worry just throw in the towel and start new.

  11. When I get that behind on comments I just start anew. It hurts a little but it's too much to try and catch up. Or I just keep up with the people who are actively commenting on my posts. (If you're like me, you follow more blogs than actually comment regularly on your own posts. Maybe? Or maybe I am universally unliked and it's just me. Hahaha!) No matter what, don't sweat it. WE all get busy with life and have to prioritize things. :)

It's so cold here this week the wind literally feels like it is burning your ears/fingers when it hits you. Brrrrrrrr!~

  12. I love your new header and that cute snowman.

Can you tell me what kind of floss bags you are using in the photo? You are brilliant to only kit up a length of thread you need instead of a whole skein/bobbin. I am going to do this on the few smalls I need to start.

Your bird photos are amazing. I love stopping by and getting a glimpse of something other than the high rise next door. Sorry I don't comment as often as I should but I do read via blogger every post!
