Turkey on an Egg, Woodpecker at the Feeder

Design - "Turkey on an Egg" (kit)
Designer - Bent Creek
Fabric - 28 count Flax linen
Fibers - WDW - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 8 November 2012
Completed - 11 November 2012

Bent Creek published several 'bird on an egg' designs.  I've stitched "Chick on an Egg", and now "Turkey on an Egg".

This weekend saw some of the Woodpecker family return to the feeders.
I had a male Northern Flicker working away at my suet block.  I like this view as you can admire the bird's bright orange tail feathers.  It looks like I should put out a new block of suet as soon as the rain stops.

I was really pleased to see a male Hairy Woodpecker eating at the peanut feeder.

I had a female come by on and off this Summer, but I'd not seen a male for quite some time.

He was pretty tenacious and was rewarded...

...with several bites of peanut!

Meanwhile, in the backyard, the Goldfinches have all disappeared and now I am awash in Pine Siskins!

Someone ask to see a photo of the Ali-Baba Fountain.  Here it is.  The fountain is about 2.5 feet tall.  The black plastic holds the water which is recirculated.  If the fountain were in a flowerbed, the black plastic container could be hidden underground for a much more pleasing appearance.

  4. thank you so much for the pictures, especially the fountain. Never seen one like that in my neck of the woods, but will keep an eye out for it. Great pictures of the woodpeckers, I never can get close to the ones where I live.

  6. What an adorable turkey finish!

Your birds are sure active at your feeders. Where do your Goldfinches go? We have them all year here, but they lose their bright yellow in the winter.
