An Owl And An October Walk

Design - "Fall Owl"
Designer - Pine Mountain Designs (kit)
Fabric - 30 count unknown linen
Fibers - DMC - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 8 October 2012
Finished - 9 October 2012

The kit came with a cute little frame for an instant finish!

We are still blessed with sunny skies in early October, so let's go take a walk.

I'm not sure that we will have much color this year.  It has been so dry for so long, many of the maples are going straight from green to brown.  One exception though is our three Sweetgums.  They are colorful sentinels in the coniferous forest.

One of our neighbors has several groups of fall blooming crocus.
A lovely unexpected show of color this time of year.

I found this small chrysanthemum growing along the side of the road.  I can hardly believe that it is 'wild', far more like an escapee from someone's yard.

The Sword Ferns remain green and healthy in the deep shade of the forest.

Our Big Field has stayed green too.  It has a very high water table and edges the Big Creek.  The Ash trees have already lost their leaves.

Not sure what this fruit is - pretty though.

A nice cluster of Snowberries.

Looking up can be rewarding!  I love canopy provided by this large Oak.

Looking up once again.  This time to admire the sheen and shimmer of the Cottonwoods.  They are beginning to turn a pale yellow-green.

I'll end the walk with the Best Burst of Color I found on my stroll - a Vine Maple in full glory.

  4. When you see a piece framed it changes the look completely. The frame really brings the piece to life. I've never seen a crocus at this time of year.

  6. Super cute owl! The frame is perfect. I bet it would go nicely with a bunch of other things too if you don't end up framing this little guy.
