A Couple of Critters

I've been busy this week helping to power-wash the front porch, back patio and all of our many walkways.  It's done and looks great, but did not leave much time for photography. 

I did spy a gray squirrel.

I've finally got my front feeders set up so they cannot climb or jump on them, so the squirrels are hanging in the backyard for the most part.

And a bunny in the daisies.

Pretty darned adorable.

Beginning on the 20th of the month or so, I started hearing a high-pitched whistling sound.

Finally on the 23rd of the month I saw them!

A small group of Cedar Waxwings.

So for several mornings in a row I've found a group of birds perched high up in a large Douglas fir tree.

They then fly off for the day. 

I think they are among the most handsome birds that I see up near the house.

They do not ever come to the feeders, but will come for water.

They are insect and fruit/berry eaters.  I'll see them on and off through October.

I'm always glad to see a Black-capped Chickadee.

They are busy inquisitive birds.

Here's an American Robin...

...and a male Black-headed Grosbeak.

The House Wren is hanging tough.  Still looking at bird houses and singing his heart out.  Will he find a mate?  Stay tuned.

Walk Around the House

For the last walk in May I though we'd stroll around the house.

The flowerbeds are a mix of natives...

...and hybrids.  This yellow daylily smells wonderful.

Big Birds

Memorial Day was hazy with high clouds.

But that did not stop the 173rd Fighter Wing from Kinglsey Field in Klamath Falls, OR.

They performed a fly-over honoring medical staff. They came up from Cottage Grove in the south, and flew over the three hospitals in the Eugene / Springfield area, before heading west to Florence's hospital on the coast.  

We got pretty good views as they headed of to the coast.

It made for a special day.

We have a new deer.

It's this young buck.

He is pretty brazen and strolls right up onto the patio and comes and looks in the kitchen door!

Sang his little heart out.

I was most pleased to enjoy this soloist.

It was a great concert!
