Goodness, but this month has wings!

I recently got several nice looks at a Red-breasted Sapsucker.  

I was excited to see it on a tree...

...but then it flew in much closer...

...landing on a post on our deer fence.

Nice!

Lots and lots and lots of California Quail.
Here's a pair of what I call awkward teenagers. 

A cuter, younger quail.

And a proud Papa with several still very small quail.

  1. Sweet bit of August stitch! The coloring on the Red-breasted Sapsucker is so pretty. I like the picture of the two "awkward teenage" quail. It looks like they have had a growth spurt.
