I'm puttering away on a Bent Creek St' Patrick's design. As there's lots of green, it fits in with our lushly verdant April.
Today we are supposed to break records and reach 82F! No excuses, let's go for another walk.
The green leaves of the lupine are the same color as the grass.
This meadow used to be twice as large, but now there's a new house on the right side. I will continue to enjoy the green grass, yellow buttercups, and purple Camas in the remains of the meadow until such time as they too become a house site.
The Star-flowered False Solomon's Seal (Maianthemum stellatum) is setting buds.
Here a Fawn Lily (Erythronium oregonum) blooms among a large patch of Star-Flowered False Solomon's Seal.
And here a Small-Flowered Trillium (Trillium parviflorum) blooms in the lush green grass.
The round leaves in the left are Miner's Lettuce (Claytonia perfoliata). It is supposed to make an excellent salad and can be eaten cooked or raw.
Here are several plants of the Large False Solomon's Seal (Maianthemum racemosum). No sign of flower buds yet.
I spoke too soon! This plant has a flower bud.
The Bracken Ferns (Pteridium aquilinum) are unfurling.
My sister has a large patch of Cow's Parsnip (Heracleum maximum) at the edge of her dahlia garden. These plants can grow to be 6'-10' tall.
The fiddle heads of new Sword Fern (Polystichum munitum) fronds.
The Tiger Lilies (Lilium columbianum) continue to grow. They can be 4'-6' tall. I hope the deer do not find them, as they will devour them if they do.
In our swamp the Seep-spring Monkeyflower (Mimulus guttatus) and Camas thrive.
The third plant in the marshy wet is the poisonousCorn Lily (Veratrum californicum). It is growing in standing water.
82! we are sitting at like 40 and we might get snow showers before the weeks out....Beth....jealous!
ReplyDeleteHi Beth, I am in awe of all your greeness already. We in Ottawa, Canada were doing well with spring but just got a system that moved up from the mid-western states that gave us snow so we have a white world this morning. However, raining now so should be gone by the weekend. Meanwhile, I love your new header...so pretty, so many projects! I always love looking at the growing things and noting new-to-me plants so thanks for showing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of gorgeous plants, I wish ours were so well developed. We desperately need some sun and a bit of warmth.
ReplyDeleteAnother lovely walk! We are suppose to set records today too. Does this mean we will have another HOT summer?? We are thinking about AC.
ReplyDeleteYour "walk" photos are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI just love beautiful green landscapes!
You have another St. Patrick design going!! Such fun!
Gee whiz! I want that nice warm weather here!! We MIGHT reach 50 today, but with the wind chill... not a day I want to enjoy outside... I am SO ready for spring like yours! Not nearly as much greening going on around here yet... sigh!
