Pelican Progress

I've stitched the Pelican, now on to finishing up the mitten.

This design is called "Belli...can" and the chart is "August" #327 from The Cricket Collection. 

The temperatures have moderated a bit from the mid-90's to the mid-80's so we can take a stroll and stick to the shade. 

Butterflies like the sunny weather.  There were Swallowtails too, but I could not get a shot of them.

The Cows' Parsnip is over six feet tall now.

The Teasle is growing quickly too.  The Goldfinches will feast on the seeds after the plants bloom.

It won't be long now before the Ocean Spray resembles its name.

The woods are festooned with mosses and lichens. Originally I thought this might be a Bushtit nest, but it is just a cascade of moss.

I've seen the hummingbirds working away on the Columbine and the Blackberry blossoms.

I think this is going to be a good year for Hazelnuts.

There are lots of doubles...

...and here's a four-pack!  The chipmunks and jays will soon be battling over possession of these!

Lewis's Mock-Orange (Philadelphus lewisii) is one of the later shrubs to bloom. 

As its name suggests, it smells wonderful! 

The daisies have taken over the meadows.

Here's another weedy wildflower - Common Toadflax (Linaria vulgaris).

Look at all the Blackberry blossoms!  No wonder the hummingbirds are happy.

I think we'll have a good crop of them to go along with the hazelnuts.

Our Elderberry is blooming.  Birds are supposed to like the fruit, but in the couple of years I've watched, I've never seen it set any berries. 

The grass pollen count is over 800 (120 or more is considered high).  I'm glad I'm not allergic!
