This is a sweet little stitch that I worked on while watching television one evening.  October is the perfect month to stitch owls as our Great Horned Owls are very vocal in the early morning and evening.

The Acorn Woodpeckers are really active too. They've started to eat suet as well as peanuts.

Here's one flying from a suet feeder to a peanut feeder.

Peanuts though remain the most popular food by far.

I often have two birds on one feeder.
This is two females.

And now that I two feeders I've seen three birds at the same time though I've not been able to nab a photo yet.

I am sure this one is the baby of the group born this summer. I know the parents had a male and he is still short and fat and fluffy two month after he fledged.  He is also extremely vocal!

It's much harder to tell baby Flickers from adults now as they all basically look the same.

This is a male with the red mustache and pretty orange tail feathers.

The Red-breasted Sapsuckers and Acorn Woodpeckers do not much care for one another.  The Acorns drive the smaller Sapsuckers away from roosting on 'their' trees.

Fortunately, though the Sapsuckers fly away, they soon return.

Something about upside down woodpeckers amuses me greatly!

Here you can see the precise rows of holes that is the typical work of a Sapsucker.

If you'd like to see and hear the Acorn Woodpeckers in action, take a look at this 3 minute video.  You'll soon understand why I am so enchanted with these birds.
