I'll be able to finish this small stitch today.
I showed it to Tom-Cat and he asked, "Where are the cats anyway?!?"
While the stitched cats are going to be the 'wrong' color, they will be Tigers nonetheless. Okay Tom-Cat?
The past couple of weeks I've had a plethora of Yellow Birds.
The American Goldfinches are now a rather dull yellow, but yellow just the same.
They are gorging on Nyger thistle seeds.
The Lesser Goldfinch is really a Greater Goldfinch now as he has retained his vibrant summer color.
He's a big fan of the Nyger thistle.
And though I seem to have fewer Lessers, they are still around.
I think this is probably going to be my last sighting of a Wilson's Warbler.
While not as 'loudly colored' as the male, the female is a pretty little bird.
Only two kinds of Warblers winter in Oregon, the others all will head to Mexico and Central America. As Warblers are small birds, they fly at night during migration to avoid predators.
The brightest of yellow birds right now are the Western Tanagers.
I think I have a couple of birds still hanging around - a mature female and a juvenile.
I was so stoked to get this series of photos as the female Western Tanager stayed on this branch for less than a minute.
She is a very pretty bird and you can see why I call her my Banana Bird.
Western Tanagers fly north to breed and summer in a range that includes western Canada south to Arizona and New Mexico.
This pretty little bird will fly a couple of thousand miles to spend the winter in Mexico or Central America. I wonder if she'll hang out with the Warblers!
I'm becoming a fan of the yellow birds because of you! Love the cat stitch so far too!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty post. :)
ReplyDeletePretty yellow birds! I like your cat stitching. Are you going to do more of the alphabet in this group?

ReplyDeleteBeth, you do get such amazing shots of your many, many birds! The Western Tanager and the Wilson's Warbler and the Lesser Goldfinch are so vibrant. Our goldfinches' colour is fading as well but lots of them around.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful picture of Tom Cat! Your C is looking great!
So many beautiful yellow birds. I am always amazed at how far many of them fly . I don't know how they do it!
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty yellow birds --- great pictures! Can't wait to see the cat stitching -- I'm sure it will be purr-fect! LOL
ReplyDeleteOur goldfinches are even less yellow now than yours, Beth--soon they will be heading south. I'll really miss them as they've been quite entertaining all summer. But, the chickadees have been taking their place at the feeder so we'll still have some birds all winter long :)
