On Friday morning we had quite a bit of bird action as Tom-Cat and Padma will attest.
I was pleased to see a group of three Sapsuckers hanging about. They've been pretty much missing in action since the babies fledged.
The Goldfinches continue to flock to me feeders.
I've counted as many as 11-13 clinging to the Nyjer thistle bag.
As you can see, there's no longer much 'gold' in the Goldfinches. I think it is remarkable just how different they look in mid-September compared to the brilliant colors of mid-June.
We got a 'fly-over' from a Great Blue Heron. Not a melodic bird by any means; this one sounded like a hoarse pig as he flew along.
This though, was the visitor that put an end to the Morning Bird Gathering. It adjourned abruptly upon the arrival of this Cooper's Hawk.
aww such a lovely happy post..i love birds so much.
ReplyDeletelove for you x
I love your description of the noise made by the heron flying over. I always know when a sparrow hawk has arrived in our area as the birds disappear for hours.
ReplyDeleteStill laughing at your description of the sound of the great blue heron, Beth :)
ReplyDeleteI've never seen so many birds on one feeder--you must go through a ton of bird seed each year!
heheh we have raucous songs of the herons here and also of a parrot that mimics them at the bottom of the garden ... gorgeous flowers and cute finishes too
ReplyDeletecan you tell I am catching up heheheh :)
love mouse xxxx
The cooper's hawk is quite beautiful if also a bit scary!
ReplyDeleteBirds and cats--one of my favorite kinds of posts! Those goldfinches are amazing--so many of them eating at once from the bag. I hardly ever see any here.
ReplyDeleteIt is crazy how much their color changes, isn't it? I love them when they are at their brightest, most neon yellow. They almost glow when the sun hits them.
