Daffodil Days - Part Two

Design - Alphabet Mania "D is for Daffodil"
Designer - Heart in Hand
Fabric - 32 count Clay Belfast linen
Fibers - GAST & WDW - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 9 April 2012
Completed - 11 April 2012

I had a bit of a struggle with the two colors in the trumpet of the daffodil.  I had to be ruthless with WDW "Whiskey" in order to get several rows of yellow/ orange without the brown variegations.

I've been holding on to this finish for a bit, hoping to put together one more daffodil photo post to go with it.  I got in a rush a deleted photos from my camera before downloading them, so lost my very best set of daff photos from last week...

Last year I mentioned that about a mile from our house, one of our neighbors has created a lovely vista of naturalized daffodils beneath an Oak forest canopy hillside.  It is easily visible from the road, and thus is something they share with all of us.  I think there are at least two varieties of daffodils.  It is interesting how they fade from butter to cream as they age.  I took photos on April 6th and again on April 17th. I'm going to let the photos speak without commentary.

  3. I love this post today. It just made me smile. Daffodils are my very most favorite flower of all. It's too bad they only bloom for such a short time. :o)

  5. The daffodils on the hillside are simply glorious! And so is your lovely cross-stitch!

(About the crabapple trees and deer ~ isn't it amazing how smart they are? After many, many years of battling them getting in my garden, I finally found deer fencing and thought I had them successfully taken care of, but alas, they learned how to open the gate!!! I guess I need to take some lessons from their teacher!)
Hope your trees do well this year!
    Happy gardening and stitching!

  7. Such a cute finish, Beth--you did a great job with the overdyeds! What lovely daffodil photos, too. We seem to be getting fewer and fewer along the edge of our woods--not sure what the problem is. This year, they were particularly bad--can't blame this one on the deer!
