Oh I love WDW's "Periwinkle". Stitching the alphabet for Lizzie Kate's "Easter Sampling" has been a joy!
Let's catch up with My Peeps. Some are the first confirmed sightings for 2012.
I got a good shot of my little Yellow Rumped Warbler. Such a terrible name - I think he could be called a Yellow Throated Warbler.
And look who has returned to spend some time with us!
A Rufous Hummingbird. The Anna's Hummingbirds are green and year-round residents. The Rufous migrate in about mid-October and return in mid-March. Look at the lovely orangey / yellowy / greenish iridescent 'collar' around his throat.
It is good to see a little female Downy Woodpecker once again.
She's about 1/2 the size of her Hairy Woodpecker cousin, and much more bashful.
Day in, day out, who can you count on? Juncoes that's who!
And who might this be? That's today's quiz. I'll post the answer when I get a better close-up photo. Clue: This guy, and his 50 closest friends, are also Spring / Summer residents.
It's so funny how we all love stitching with certain colors--that periwinkle really is a pretty shade.
ReplyDeleteLove that Rufous hummingbird! I never knew hummmingbirds could be so large...
I love that purple you're stitching with too!
ReplyDeleteMy new house has a backyard full of birds. I need to figure out how to take some pretty photos of them. Is that a dove in the last photo? That skinny head and fat body are what's making me think of a dove.
I agree, the outline shape is very dove like. The little warbler is very cute, even the name made me smile.
ReplyDeleteI instantly thought of your blog this week when I bought a cross stitch pattern for cute little hummingbirds wearing flower hats.
I say your feathered friend in question resembles a dove. Head's too small for a pigeon. I'd have to get out the bird watcher's book for any other cousins. LOL And pretty periwinkle alphabet you have going on too. XD
ReplyDeleteThe periwinkle looks great. Wow! I have never seen a yellow rumped warbler. What a pretty little bird(of course the others are lovely too). We had 2 variegated thrushes at the feeder this morning. they are new to our feeder this year. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteLove that periwinkle - it is about my favorite color!
ReplyDeleteGreat peeps pix. That warbler is very cute.
I just love your bird photos. You must have a wonderful camera or how do you get so clost to them without them flying away?
ReplyDeletePeriwinkle has always beena favorite color of mine and also Corn Flower from the Crayola box :) I can't wait to see more progress pics.
ReplyDeleteI have a picture of a bird I would like to pick your brain about :) email you soon
Love how the periwinkle is stitching up! Very pretty! Love the Rufous!! The bird in the tree looks like a Mourning Dove to me just based on body shape.
ReplyDeleteDon't know which I like more, your stitching or pictures of the birds. Oh, who am I kidding, I love them both!
