I thought I had some geese flying overhead.

But instead it's a trio of Mallards.

Two drakes with a female in the center.

I also thought the Ravens had popped in for a visit. 

But instead it's a tri of Crows.

I think they must be a family unit,

...as they hang out together.

Very shiny and glossy!

We had our first hard frost Friday night. 

This is a frosty Saturday morning series.

Saturday's Critters - The Bucks

This post feature the bucks.

 

Here's the youngest of the four - he has buttons.

Here he is with his mom.

I had eight deer in the backyard.

And yes, Barry is by far the biggest of the bucks.

Two more doe came out of the brush.

And who is coming from the left?

And is Barry upset about it?

Yes and yes.

This guy is not very big.

Do you think Barry is sticking his tongue out at the newbie?

He is certainly not thrilled to have him in the area.

And now Oliver (buck #4) is coming over to take a look!

I've not been able to spend much time outside, so not a big array of photos today.

That said, Chestnut-backed Chickadees are worth a post.

They cannot help but being cute.

I'm not seeing the larger woodpeckers...

But I have seen a Hairy Woodpecker.

Here's a male.

And the Downy Woodpeckers are active.

These are all males too.

A sweet little bird.

Hope you enjoyed the woodpeckers today.

Wednesday's Walk

Dull and gray and rainy for the last walk in October.  

The Big Leaf Maples are bright yellow.

This small tree forms part of the berm in the backyard.

Here's a wild cherry.

Yellow / green Cottonwood.

Douglas fir covered with droplets.

A pair of Big Leaf Maples.

Hazel brush.

One of our prettiest trees - a Paperbark Maple.
