Home Stretch

I'm coming down the home stretch on this - a bit more snow to stitch and a couple of touch-ups and I'm done.  And yes, I already have my next stitch all picked out!

It's always great fun to have a Red-breasted Nuthatch or two around.

You gotta' love the classic nuthatch feeder pose.

Kudos to a bird that can eat upside down!

Sunday's Hummers

This time I have two birds to share! 

The ever-present adult male Anna's Hummingbird

And an adult female Anna's/ 

She has her tongue out!

She's been AWOL for a week or more - probably tending to her nest.

Saturday's Critters

Chipmunks!

On morning I counted eight of them!

The ubiquitous Gray Squirrel

 

There are at least seven of them.

And a couple of does.

Love the colors in "February Stamp" - a fun and fast stitch.

I see anywhere from 8-20 Juncos during this time of year.

They are among my most reliable winter birds.

While generally ground feeders, they will use a tray the deer fence to eat. 

Suet flower seeds and suet are both acceptable treats.

Everyone is hungry, including this small Sharp-shinned Hawk.

The Steller's Jays ignore the Sharpie. They're about the same size as the little raptor and do not fear it. 

Smaller song birds, like this female Lesser Goldfinch flee upon the arrival of a Sharpie.

They are a potential breakfast treat.

While watching a group of Golden-crowned Sparrow, I noticed this outlier.

The yellow in front of the eye, the white throat...

...the white stripes on the head.

Yep, it's a White-throated Sparrow!

I am hearing and seeing larger groups of Starlings.

Thus far they are staying away from the bird feeders.

The Downy Woodpeckers are fairly reliable.

This female preferred peanuts over suet. 

Juncos call in the category of Quietly Colored Birds.

That said, I think they are quite handsome.
